This might be a stupid question but I'm a newbie to French rifles. Is the 8mm Lebel ammo for the 1886/M93 the same as the ammo for the 07/15's? Is 8x50r the same as 8mm Lebel? Thanks!
yes and no
the 8mm for the Lebel had a rounded nose as not to cause a chain reaction in the tubular magazine under the barrel. For the M07/15's and other Berthier riflles and carbines, it does not matter.
My Understanding is that the pointed ammo is safe to use inthe Lebels too. as the taper of the casing and the grove around the primer was designed to minimize the danger of the primer contact in the magazine. There is a differance in the N Ammo though, if your lebel or Berthier have not be rechambered after the war they would be chambered for the smaller diameter ammo, if there is an "N" on the reciever, it has been rechambered, the up side, is that the larger ammo should not chamber in an unmodifyed rifle>
Gus
Also be careful of the 8x50R. There is 8x50R Austrian and 8x50R Lebel. Very different rounds.
