mas36's coming into the us in 2002

I just spotted a french article where it was stated that 3,000 Mas36 rifles were sold to us dealers (im guessing aim, that type of thing) in 2002. Is this about the period a bunch of the mas rifles went on sale?

They said the price was 5 euros a piece on the condition that they dont return to France!

I bought a few from Numrich back around 2003. I think I paid $39 each. Most had heavy cosmo, one had stock carvings ("AFL" and a backwards swastika), and all had enough sand in the actions to cover my work bench. But they all cleaned up nice and have vg bores.
