I live in IN near the OH line and would like to be able to carry concealed in that state. I already have a lifetime Indiana permit, found out today the People's Democratic Worker's Republic of Ohio does not recognize Indiana concealed carry permits, despite the fact we recognize theirs. So for those Buckeyes out there following this forum, what do I need to do to be able to carry concealed when I visit OH?

http://www.handgunlaw.us/ From what I read here it just reinforces what I have heard before. If your state is not recognized by Ohio, which yours is not, you cannot carry concealed legally. They do not issue non-resident permits. Sorry guy. :(

Well, I just found out that I can carry in OH, IF I obtain a Utah CCW permit. Seems a little moronic given how OH residents are allowed to carry here and we IN residents cannot there, but OH will honor Utah permits and since I know one of the instructors on the list here in IN, I think my path to CCW in OH got a lot easier.

Or you can also get a Florida non resident CCW. Ohio does reciprocate the Florida permit with the only restriction being handguns only, even though while in Florida the Florida permit allows for other types of weapons such as stun guns, tazers, knives and clubs. The Florida resident permit is reciprocal in 33 states as of Sept. 12, 2008, but the non-resident permit is only recognized by 29 of those states. The Florida permit is good in Indiana too.

I know what you mean about the laws being "strange". I have the same issue with having an OH permit, but live near the PA boarder and can't carry in PA. I ended up getting a non-resident NH permit. Seems like it would be easier just for all states to recognize others and have a uniform training/requirement!

The fact I'm a fan of the University of Michigan and it's football program is a big reason. Dayton is another. I like Cincy, but would take Indy or Ann Arbor over both any day.
Indiana is a gun owner's heaven as well.

Why don't you just buy a small lot SOMEWHERE in Ohio for cheap. I've seen land in Ohio under $500 on eBay before. That would give you Ohio residency, and you can just have dual residency.
Since you've now lived in Ohio less then 5 years doing this, the CCW fee is higher.

I don't believe just owning land constitutes residency. I believe you have to reside in the state for a "x" months out of the year to be considered a resident. I base this only on when I went to college. My parents still owned a house in TN when when we moved to the east coast. I wasn't considered a resident of TN for college tuition. Could be completely different.

go here (link Below)and select multistate tab, then ohio to see what states ohio honors. that way you can find the state with the lowest cost that issues out of state permits good in ohio. Process sucks but it works.

The reason Ohio doesnt recognize Indiana is because in Indiana you dont take any training to get your CCW. All you do is apply and pay a fee correct?
I dont mean to sound crude but honestly I think its good idea we dont recognize your license. No training, no license

Its a great thing, No one wants a bunch of untrained and uninformed nut jobs running around in ohio with guns because all they had to do was pay a fee.
Just look at all the Steps you for getting an Ohio concealed carry permit (http://ohshooters.com/articles/showentry.php?e=2) there are.

You should send a "love" note to your state representatives and tell them about it. They need to hear from the voters when stupid stuff like this exists!

I hate to tell you this, but it was no real hassle jumping through the hoops to get my Utah permit to go with the IN one I already have. The class and training you cite needed to keep "uninformed nut jobs running around Ohio with guns because all they had to do was pay a fee" seemed to me a little more like a refresher course from Hunter's education. Paperwork and lag time no big deal either, and cheaper than a Florida permit.
I'm not against being an educated firearms user/owner nor jumping through a few hoops to prepare one for the responsibilities involved with preserving and exercising RKBA. Quite the opposite, I took the Hunter's ed class just for the heck of it and didn't gripe about it unlike a lot of the guys a little younger than me who were required to take it. This may surprise you but I think it would be GREAT if the Indiana permit (especially the lifetime one like I hold) had a class and range component with it.
However...........the Ohio State Buckeyes still stink and Tressel can't beat the SEC, PAC 10, and last time I checked.....he blew another big one to the Big 12
Oh and one last thing, will you people please quit driving 65 in the left lane of the interstate? It really makes it a pain in the rear for those of us here in Indiana running the speed limit of 70? :D
