.303 Lee enfield

Good afternoon gentlemen.
Can someone please give me some advice as to what to look for on the .303 Lee Enfield. I am getting my fathers one. Still in use every now and again but I want to make sure that I get it back to the optimal state. It has been made sporty by removing some of the wood under the barrel like gunsmits normally do but as far as the trigger mechanism go and all the other small things that can go wrong over the years.
