I served briefly under Patton's son while in Germany. He was every bit as big a pain as his old man but, not cut from the same cloth. We frequently traveled the autobahn in convoy, usually at about 40mph. Well, it turned out Patton noticed we could not maintain an air guard with tarps on the trucks. So tarp kits and cab covers were removed. Now drive down the road at 40mph in winter blowing in the wind! In the convoy move following that order I saw Patton passing our convoy... riding in the back seat of a nice heated sedan!
#@5X!!! Fortunately that only happened once. The military was hell on getting frost bite. If you got it you could wind up facing a court martial as a result, that's how serious they were about it. Well, several cases of frost bite occurred from that convoy. That was the end of THAT nonsense!
