Hey Goat ... I gotta tell you. Best thing I ever did. If I didn't have an 8" scar on my ass, I would never know I got a bunch of titanium, plastic, steel and screws holding me together.
My treatment at the Philly VA was terrible, but had a young surgeon from the Univ of PA do my surgery, and he must have did an outstanding job. If I ever need another one I'd ask for him.
Honest, it feels absolutely normal ..... but with all my other aches and pains, I still have to call suicide prevention every morning !!!! LOL.
My knees seem to be OK. I don't know what 'fuseing' does to them or if you would lose mobility. Does he recommend a replacement ?? I've heard good things about that too, but hear that knee rehab is longer than hip rehab... It took me about 3 to 4 months to start feeling normal .... but really am happy I did it. My quality of life sucked with that bad hip.
Good luck on whatever you decide. And thanks for stopping by .....

    Old Goat,
Glad to hear from you again. Last week I almost put a post on the ammo bunker looking for you. Hope all is well with you and the ewe, Haha. At least I have a link to someone I thought I had lost by the wayside. I am glad you sent that post to me. We were thinking about each other at about the same time. That is strange my friend, but not uncommon. Have a wonderful Christmas and tell the Nanny (goat) I said hello.

Hey OG, wanted to stop by and wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a healthy and Happy New Year. Did you ever get your surgery ? I'm on the mend. Never heard from the VA since the day I escaped the Philly Hospital, but I feel great (as far as the hip goes) .... treated like crap but looks like I got good surgery. You know I lived in St Pete for a few years and always thought the VAMC at Bay Pines was very good also. Lots of vets in Florida so maybe treatment is a lot better.
Hope you're doing fine ... I sure miss that warm weather.... aches and pains from this damp cold north !! Take Care ... OJH

Thank you Rip. It's been a long hard ride to here for all of us but I wouldn't trade it. I'm sorry for some of it but I enjoyed it most all the way. We are all getting old but it's NOT our fault.

OG just a short note to say how do, I dropped elmer j. a line after reading his story about andrew, the big wind, and read yours as well and wanted to say that was quiet a compelling story. Suffice it to say I would do exactly as you and sail off into the sea. But don't worry, your luck is gonna change cause you have a friend in rip.

Well, it sure looks good. I have been lusting after a Schoefield repo probably going after a Uberti if I can find someone who doesn't want an arm and a leg for it. See you on the forum. Walt

Hello , actually it is not a Schofield but one of the smaller pocket pistols called a DA (double action) 32. Very reminiscent of the Schofield though. Would love to have a Schofield though............

Wow, sorry about all that trouble. We have a really good Va hospital in Tampa with nothing but praise from every one who goes. Also we have a state of the art clinic here in Lakeland. If you have anymore trouble you should come down here to get the work done. Afterwards you can bunk in with us. Only down side is you would have to listen to all my stories. Glad your on the mend. Hey OG, thanks for the well wishes. I could tell a 3 hour story on the outrageously lousy treatment I received at the Phila VA. All I can say is the surgery seemed to go well, but all down hill after that. Seems the VA in Philly is used to treating homeless, charity cases and treat all their patients that way. The surgeon was from U of Penn Hospital (great local hospital). I saw him one time ... 15 minutes before surgery and never saw him again. Treatment post op in the wards was awful. Had to ask to have bed sheets changed after laying in my own sweat and goo for 3 days without being moved. My advice: If the knee pain is hurting your quality of life, go for it ...... BUT go to a real hospital where you will be treated like a human being and avoid the VA unless you are double positive that it is a good one .....
Sorry for the long rant ... could have complained for a few more hours ... just a very bitter experience.
    Good luck, my friend.

HEY Oldgoat, thanks and welcome home. If you don't hear from me for a few weeks, off to the VA tomorrow for hip surgery, than probably a number of weeks of re-hab.
Hope the knee doesn't keep you from enjoying life. My hip does, so I finally surrendered and said "Cut Me !" ... Maybe you should too. Good Luck..

That has been moved out to July Buckshooter. I had a windfall job come up and things being the way they are I had to postpone. I should probably get you a list of what I have and email it to you. Hope it is cooler up there than it is here. Walt

Nope, not me. Never been to Iraq. Been out of Uncle's uniform, even as a reservist, since 1979, and haven't ever done the contracting bit.

No, can't say that I have. In fact, never been in Iraq or Afghanistan, too old for that sort of thing when it got hot over in those places.
