Dear Ed, my Grand Father was a Captain in the Merchant Marines. He had a very colorfull career starting in the 1920's on a side wheeler traveling up & down the Yangtze River. He was torpedoed by the Germans & spent three days in a life raft. He was cluster bombed by the Japanese. One cluster bomb landed behind him on the partial open bridge. Luckily for him (& me) it was a dud. The crew dewatted it & presented it to him as a lucky gift. He gave me the bomb one day as he told me of his sea tales. Unfortunately he passed away when I was six. It was that bomb, his stories & my Fathers antique shop walk ins that started me collecting Japanese militaria.
