So this is a gun I purchased about a month back for around $700. It's a BYF 42 Norwegian rework k98k in 30.06. Everything matches on it except the sight ladder and the buttplate (which matches the Norwegian number) and the replacement barrel of course. Even the stock matches but I didn't take any pics of it while I had it all taken apart. The Norwegians in my opinion greatly improved on the sights as they are now more "Americanized" in that the front sight is now a square post and the rear sight has a much wider U-notch instead of the inverted V-notch. The bolt is matching except for the bolt handle, which matches the Norwegian serial number on the receiver. I know many don't care for the blonde wood but I dig it. It is a very accurate shooter as well from the one time I brought it out. Seems to have the original German sling on it too. I've heard these are getting kind of hard to find at least here in the States. Any thoughts or comments are greatly appreciated.
These are my favorite post war version of the K98. Most have mostly original matching
parts, all have improved sights, and most have excellent quality 30 caliber barrels. Great shooters.
Excellent rifles guys. I'm gonna have to keep an eye out for a BSW in the future because those look super sweet. I have a bolt mismatched K98k as well and I can tell you that I much prefer the Norwegian over the German. Easier to operate sights, an easier to find round in the 30.06, and a real tack driver. I didn't take any pics of my target but I took mine out this past weekend at the 100 yard range. Had a 1" group with open sights, which I can't even do with my K31 and I usually have a scope on that thing.
It was a nice find for mine as I'm a bSw collector. I have 9 of them, just one Norway rifle though. The sling on mine is the Norwegian version for the k98's and getting hard to locate.
Yeah I have heard the Norwegians are getting super hard to find at least here in America. I have a buddy in Norway (where I was born) that says they have a pretty good amount of them there and they aren't hard to find. I've only seen like 3 or so of them listed on gun sites for sale in the past 6 months. As much as I'd like to get another one, as long as they remain scarce, the more collectable they become.
Since the new gun laws in norway, they are getting much harder to find
