Default Survey of Long Branch #4 serial number ranges

Limpetmine has requested that we do for the Long Branch what we have been doing for the Savage.
If you decide to contribute please list the following: serial number(x out last 2-3 digits); year made. You may also, if you so wish, list special attributes you find interesting.
I would prefer you did not contribute pictures so as to save vic's and TUCO's memory space. If there is a request for a picture, then go ahead, but not too many.

    Default I'll start with these

    June 20, 2009 update.
Here is the long awaited update. 226 serial numbers so far, and 4 date/serial number changes in this update. As you can see, having all the digits in the serial number make are a great help to narrowing the change over serial number on year changes. The '44 '45 change of date is showing some really strange stuff; numbers are all over the map, with lots of out of sequence numbers. Also interesting is a 1945 rifle with a 1950 serial number, and the "5" of the 1945 looks hand stamped. Really a neat rifle! It appears to be a 1950 all the way around, but is dated 1945.
Please keep your numbers coming, I hope this public information will continue to be a useful resource./////limpetmine, June 20, 2009

1941 No. 4 Mk I, 0L57**, matching bolt/barrel/foreend/magazine, original '41 dated two groove barrel, LB-marked Mk I rear sight, hinged front barrel band, early style LB-marked safety, in short everything is LB-marked. Later type cocking piece and milled front sight protector. The buttplate is steel, if I remember correctly. FTR '50 marked.

Just brought home the latest addition. It's a '43 LongBranch #4 Mk1* no FTR, serial # 41L15xx with matching bolt. The mag has #11L7132 & NZ 6096 stamped on the bottom & a B in an O on the platform. The safety is the classic LongBranch kicking one & the butt plate is the pot metal variety. The front sightprotector & sight are Mk 1 (altered) & the rear sight is marked MkIII with no LB marks. Overall the rifle is in excellent shape for an unFTR'd #4 with better than average blueing left on the metal. I haven't mentioned wood for a very good reason; I bought the wood on ebay & then sold it to a friend who used it on 41L15xx & then a year later convinced me I really needed a LB. So although I know the butt is LB I haven't stripped the rifle down to check on the rest of the wood.
Now to see how she shoots.

I have a 1942, ser. no. 56 L 04xx , bolt matches, metal parts stamped LB, some minor parts are stamped S, for Savage I presume. Light colored stock, brass butt plate. Some Longbranch rifles have Savage parts, because when Savage quit making them, they sent the parts to Canada.

Savage also sent parts that way when SAL was getting the LB plant running in 1941. Parts went both ways, but mainly south to north.

    I think mine is a 1945, serial $ 83L381X.
Seems to fit in the 1945 serial # range. Really nice rifle, with gorgeous wood, except it has been sealed, and original metal finish.
