    Gain Twist rifling

When was the gain twist rifling abandoned in the Carcano and which models do and do not have this rifling? Was this something used only in the M1891 and if so, was it altered for the carbine versions or was it dropped altogether in the carbines? I know that the M91/24's simply had the barrels cut down to size and that the important part of the gain twist was chopped off and thrown away but were the carbines that followed re-rifled with the shorter barrel in mind or did the gain twist method end with the model 1891?

Some of the 91/24 and 91/28 carbines were made from m1891's that had worn out the end of their barrels. As the rate of twist was greater towards the end, that section would wear faster even though the barrel closer to the receiver end was still servicable.

I have a "Tubata" marked 91 long rifle. Is the new barrel liner also gain twist, or did they revert to standard twist during the refit?
