    Cool Norinco ammo

Hello all. I just got back from a funshow. The show was D-E-A-D! They had a "Rare" P64 for $465!!! I did manage to score 900 rds of Norinco, steel cased, non corosive for $100! The dealer threw in an ammo can to carry it all. How is this ammo as far as accuracy? Anyone know what the bullet weight? Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't take the non-corrosive label as being that. take the precaution and clean the pistol accordingly.

The Norinco stuff ROCKS! Good score!! I've shot boatloads of the stuff and never used anything more than Hoppes to clean. Twenty years and still good as new.,,,,well, except for normal bluing wear.
I guarantee that you're smarter than I am.

Bought a crate of Norinco 9mm MAK Ammo some years ago.
    Pretty hot stuff.
To my surprise I discovered that in each box of 50 there were a couple rounds with a steel tip insert in the projectile. Those made very impressive mushrooms! I suppose the steel insert would be armour piercing too.
I must still have a couple of these mushroom around. I'll see if I can find them for pix.
    Best regards, A

Are the steel rounds marked in any way or did you use a magnet?

they are magnetic, I keep a small magnet in my ammo box just to check; our local ranges don't allow any steel jacketed ammo, it has been a fire danger in the past.

Definitely a good price for the ammo, I got some last year at $9.99 a box of 50. Shoots nice but it stinks and it's dirty. I'm always looking for more though!

If you're talking about the rounds with the steel insert, they were identical to the regular ones. There were a couple in each box and you could only separate them by picking up the spent projectiles or using a magnet on unfired ones.

How do you tell the difference between a steel cased round and a steel bullet with copper case using a maginet?

Also picked up some Norinco Green 9X18 at a show this weekend. I only got 700 for my $100. Vendor only had one case and offered a better deal for more, but was down to my last bucks. Could be a new supply showing up?

Videodon's picture is the ammo I'm talking about.
I'll took some picutres for comparison but I'll have to ask my wife to download them later (I'm a PC neantherthal).
As for magneticism: The ones I had (found a couple back) are not steel cases but red copper, bullets are not steel jacketed either.
You will see the end-difference between the ones with and withouth the steel pin insert in the pictures.
This has been an enigma to me for years, maybe now somebody can shed a light?

Hello all. That's the same stuff that I got. I don't know if there's any more coming in though. A dealer had the ammo and had gotten rid of his Makrov. I couldn't pass up the price! My buddy was working the show and has done a few favors for this dealer. Right time at the right place I guess.

Norinco in the green box was the first box of ammo I purchased with my IJ70 back in 94.
    The stuff is good.

I use the magnet to see if the bullet is magnetic. The range won't let me use ammo if a magnet sticks to the bullet. They don't care about the case. There was a small brush fire at another local range when someone snuck in some surplus 7.62x39, and hit a rock with it and sparked a fire.

Green box Norinco is good ammo.

Plus, it's a sensory experience. Ah, the smell! The sparks!

No new Norinco ammo is "coming in" Chinese has been banned for years. Unless you are outside of the US somewhere.
FYI a magnet will not tell you if a com-bloc bullet has a steel core because most of the communist world loved using bimetallic jackets containing iron and these will attract a magnet as well. The only way to know for sure is pull a bullet and cut it in two.
Ask your range if it's only the steel CORED bullets banned. I don't know if the bimetal jackets are hard enough to throw a spark themselves or not.
I'm not a Mak shooter myself (yet) but I love Norinco ammo when I can find it for my Tokarev

it probably was a steel cored round that sparked the fire, but if it sticks to a magnet, you can't shoot it. That's why I go out to BLM land in the desert, if it's legal to own in CA (no incendiary, tracer, etc), it's OK to shoot.
