Default Berlin Lubeck 237/duv Serial Study Continued

    Gentleman,

As Vaughn has, I believe, abandoned his Berlin Lubeck serial study, I would like to take over stewardship of it and continue the information gathering. Vaughn, if you ever want it back, its yours...

We will keep it pretty much the same, although I would like you guys to include barrel band data if you would to help further other research projects.

    Thanks,

    Mike

“Hey guys collecting data on 1936-42 Berlin Lubeck K98's. For 1942 rifles please check if the top of the receiver is WaA214 or WaA749 stamped. I would also like to see if we can figure out, roughly, what months they stopped production in 1942 and how early zf41's were introduced in 1941.

Please post data in the usual form. Since we’re here please give right receiver (RR) acceptance marks and if the Firing Proof is Nazi or Weimar to see when they did the Fire Proof transition. Hopefully we will also show when they went from 237 to duv in 1940.

If you don't want to post your serial #’s you can send them to me via email. I will delete the email and not post any personal information, just the serial and other data will be added. My email is pzjgr$$@hotmail$$.com (remove the $$’s).

Feel free to post pics of serials and markings if you would like…”

“Miscellaneous info & the 3 Different Types of duv 42 Rifles

duv 43 is the Lochness monster of 98k’s, grainy pics, second hand info etc. Berlin Lubeck quit SO early in 1942 making K98's, it probably could not have happened.

Berlin Lubeck final acceptance WaA214 serial range - No letter block to “I” letter block (or early “k” as reported but no confirmation)

Per serial ranges of the BCD42 production, you will see that they ended about “p” block, and is where the first DUV42 “p” block rifles show up and have the exact type of assembly to BCD42 with Top WaA of 749 and the serial stamped in the same fashion as they did in 1942 with serial with Letter block under serial (LBUS) and assembled them p (P) -q (Q) block thus far.

The next duv 42 range is “r” – “s”. Now I thought is was very weird how it LOOKS like it continues in the “p”- “s” block but it is NOT!!!! It wasn't till about “d” block of 1943 when BCD43 switched to letter block from under the serial (LBUS) to serial block to the right of the serial (LBRS) and this is seen with every observation for the “r” and “s” letter block and they either used left over, rejected, or found receviers in this serial range. This is also compounded that the barrels are also dated 1943. There is also the point where bcd scrubbed duv 42 marked receivers and remarked them. This was probably done at Astra-Werke since BCD was only an assembler.

I expect the serial to get deeper than known but I beleieve this will be about it if you add up the blocks from the BCD production. You get about 40,000 receivers made by Berlin Lubeck and if they didn't halt production this would have put them in the “n” and “o” serials, easily, which is about what they did in 1941. To me you would think they would do better but the stop in production I think hurt their potential and we will never know how many k98s Berlin Lubeck could have produced in 1942. Now this can be thrown off by a couple of here and there receivers used in very spotty places as we do know bcd 43 went into double suffixes. A receiver or two could pop up in the reported “y” block (laws observation?) since bcd 42 never got this high.

    Thanks,
    Vaughn”

Ah, Lubeck... my second favourite maker.

Here's mine - all matching except the triggerguard screws (ANYONE got 05 TG screws?) I was told by the prior owner the screws were lost when the vet disassembled it to bring home - probable story too I believe.

    Here it is - 8005a, S/237 1938. Luftwaffe, walnut. A friend has S237 1938, also Luft., serial 4526a - laminate stock

Cousinkix....Can you check what you have for a final acceptance stamp (the WaA right on the top of the receiver), whether it is E/214 or E/749? An "l" block is by far the latest Berlin Lubeck production gun in 42 if it is E/214 marked....

Also if you haven't given them before barrel codes would be helpful!

    Hello Pzjgr, one to add,
#2161 f FBP, NIM, FP, MFP, MTG, MLB, LBUS.
And some pictures - as you can see a SSR - I believe to be legit and has been looked at by several RKI's who agree.

Thanks Skid....although I don't see any pics of the top of your receiver, and you didn't specify code or year (though it has a 39 dated barrel so I am guessing its a 39 237, but want to verify)

Mine is 1941 duv, with a script "g" under the serial number, which is "550". it is not Russian capture marked, and no markings are peened. Imported from Germany. I don't know exactly what's what, so I'll post a pic..

Thanks Spike, sounds like a "g" 1942 rifle...the Germans numbered their rifles 1-9999 (usually, there are exceptions), then after 9999 started over at 1, but added a letter suffix, "a", then "b", and so on....high number production years they even went to double letters...check to see if all the serial numbers on the parts match, and if you can post the barrel code (usually under the woodline, so you'd have to remove the action from the stock to see it)....barrel codes are especially helpful in research...

I looked just now, the barrel code is "41R5", its in line with the "duv" mark but in a different and larger font. Further up on the barrel is a lone "K".

Spike....I am at work, and therefore cannot see any pics (they don't upload here...) and will not be able to see them until I get home. Could you double check your rifle as suggested by Simson? Just want to make sure everything is accurate, especially as this info is important in the research...

    Thanks,

    Mike

My sincerest apologies! The rifle is 1941, writing 1942 was a typo error and a brain fart, considering I had the rifle right in front of me. duv 41, serial 550 g, barrel code 41R5. Sorry again for the brain-to-fingers fail.

the 3x E214 on the side of recevier is dead give away for 1941. 1942 they stopped this process and moved to top of rec . did't really abandon over the last few moths i have had only 2 reports given to me and i updated the thread. Berlin Lubeck are a scarce manufacturer for observations. so much so they never sticked this for me on gunboards forum. they have it sticked elsewheres which still brings in very few reports. I have added 27 to the list from my own research 3 from others progess none the less .

Hey Vaughn, I could have swore you posted something along the lines that other interests were taking over and you had abandoned the list, but as it is yours, I will happily turn the reigns back over if you want it....I just didn't want to see the study fade away....

    Hello,

yep you are correct i did take a break from checking daily for hours the fourms. i did forget to mention that i turned on a email to be sent to me when some one posts to the thread while i was on hiatus no harm. all is good and updated. my most hits came from the g/k43 forum. i have forgetten to copy the list from there to here when updated ill check it over add whats here to there and update here. that what made me look at your post as it has been months since i have had a reply from here on my original post.

    DUV 41, 3725 m, waA 214, CBP, zf41 type 2 base. norwegian 30-06 rework.

You can see my rifle in this thread: http://forums.gunboards.com/showthre...an-duv-41-zf41

I'm still not sure if this rifle is a real german zf41 rifle, or if it's been put together in the norwegian arsenal.
The bad point is the stock cut out. It looks half finished.
    The good points:
    Correct code: DUV 41
Most serialnumbers match, including receiver, bolt (bolthandle root is renumbered, but everything else match, and boltbody has the correct proofs), stock , rearsightbase (the ring that goes around the barrel has no SN, only a single e/214).
The serial number falls in line with 2 other zf41 rifles in the above list.

If the arsenal at Kongsberg took a random k98k and equipted it with a zf41 reasight base, whats the odds it would be a DUV 41 with sn 3725 m?

Any input on this rifle is greatly appreciated.

Since my scope is broken , I tried to get a repro scope from both Sarco and Numrich. Unfortunately export of repro zf41's are banned because they could fall into the hands of terrorists
Finally I found a german shop that sells them Just need to save up some cash.

Added it, thanks! Looks like they were making quite a few ZF-41's in the k-m block, so it certainly fits....

    hello pzjgr,

you made a mistake when coping the thread over you made both BCD43 and BCD42 as 1 section all under bcd42 which is incorrect. break at ser54 r (R) that starts the BCD43 serial observations.

pzjgr, I've showed this before, but I don't think it's on your list. It's a duv42 assembled by gustloff and has a steyr barrel on it. All matching including stock but as you can see, it's been sanded. Hope it fits in. Thanks

Mine is 100% matching, no import stamped, GI- bring back

42 duv 2204 e, 214; the e is under the serial. There are Eagle 214 stamps on the top of receiver ring and left side of barrel shank. There are Nazi Eagles with swastikas on the left side of barrel shank and receiver ring.

All metal parts are marked with 2204 except for the unmarked screws and the unserialed cupped buttplate with dwc and waa 642 on it. , There are only two digits (04) on the bolt stop, sight elevator, and extractor.

The stock and handguard, red glue laminates are 2204 in the barrel channel. It also has an L&F sling adjuster on the sling.
