Selling my 1942 Refinished Izehvsk Mosin.
Bought the rifle in 2008 as a cheap shooter for coyote hunting and general game use. Was in unissued condition, though the wooden stock had an extremely poor finish which chipped and flaked quite easily.
I took it upon myself to refinish the timber, and here is what was done:
Old varnished was stripped and spirited away
Hand sanded - with a #0000 steel wool finish, there are no high/low spots in the wood, and fit and finish are up to wartime Soviet standards. All cartouches are present and pronounced.
Minwax 'Golden pecan' stain was applied, two coats gave it a nice golden straw colour.
Woodoc (South African brand) polymer coat was applied, waterproof, and gives a nice glossy texture. Almost feels like an iPhone screen.
As far as mechanics go, the bore is virtually perfect. This is low MOA rifle, I regularly hit coke bottles at 100 metres. Practise makes permanent.
I've only had trouble with the trigger leaf spring, and will sometimes give out. A quick disassemble and adjustment has remedied this problem.
Some metal has been polished by Dremel tools and #0000 steel wool. All bearing surfaces have been polished and the firing pin has been trimmed. All the tricks have been performed on the bolt. Flawless function through 2 tins of Bulgarian. Bolt function is Mauser quality, I'd say. Have a 1944 Mauser with which to compare.
Stock is good condition, though expect some marrs, bumps, etc. It's not walnut, it's pine. Please keep that in mind.
Sights have been dialled in, the front globe sight is unique. Has been bent into the shape of a Mauser hood.
Expect all the accessories.
Feel free to request pictures. This is the only one I have on me right now, busy with school finals and work!
Asking $85, plus shipping.
