Default Colt 1860 Army - Army grips versus Navy grips

Does anyone have the dimensions/measurements of the grip frame and grips for the Army grips compared to the Navy grips for original percussion Colt revolvers? In other words, how can I tell if an original Colt 1860 Army has Army grips or Navy grips? Thanks!

The frames are two different sizes. Navy grips are to small to fit on an army model.

That's what I thought until I read Flayderman's and it says that a few of the earliest production 1860 Army's were fitted with shorter Model 1851 Navy size grip. I also have a Colt letter for an early 1860 that says it was factory fitted for Navy grips. I just don't know how to tell them apart.

I don't know anything about Colts. But I do have a copy of Serven's book. And in it he states: "Specimens examined which bear lowest serial numbers have grips of the regular Navy size. Soon the grips were lengthened to the size and shape we commonly recognize now as the Army grip."
