I carry because it's my right to and as a disabled person I have been "targeted" as an easy mark several times, My pt92 changed their minds every time.
I carry for my family, and the fear of one day wishing I had. In today's society, you can be in danger at anytime and anyplace. I'm not paranoid, I'm prepared.
Just for the record I have never fired my weapon at another human being as a civilian and I hope I never have to, But that doesn't mean I will be a victim either.
Twice in Raleigh NC and once in Albany NY and yes I notified police every time. No shooting was involved. The first incident in Raleigh I was alone and 2 men thought it would be a good idea to steal my van in the middle of the night, I walked out just as they broke the driver door window I hollered at them to leave and the dimwit came after me with a claw hammer until I introduced him to my Taurus pt92 then they both ran off. They were both caught. The second my kids and I were at Falls lake state park and a "gentleman" suggested I hand over my wallet just the sight of my firearm and he ran off, I do not know if he was ever caught but I filed a report anyway. The Albany incident was an idiot carjacker who turned out to be 15 pulled an inoperative .38 out as I was stopped at a light on Lark st. My wife and kids were in the car. He was arrested.
Um, kinda pissed off by the blaze, they are posting from one website, and yet clearly ripping off Oleg Volk, to the point you can see where the website put their mark OVER another
Oleg started The High Road, which used to be the big gunboard, and is still a granddaddy board from back then

Did anyone else look at niadhf's link to see why he posted this? I don't think his intent was to create an opportunity for members to grill other members. On my phone Photo #12 in his link appears to be a Makarov. Thats pretty cool considering that there are more popular pistols.
what a ff... I carry guns in my pocket from 1994 reason ??? it`s another story. Best gun was Margolin in original cal. worst - some kind of Umarex gas revolver :barf:
I carry a gun 100% of the time I'm in our hunting concession in Africa. The reasons???........Lion........Hyena........Jackals........Black Mambas........Cape Cobras........Various species of Puff Adder........Poachers .......hunting for rations........market hunting for the nearest town..........or backing up a client while guiding.
Never in the nearest town or the major cities and never at home in the U.S. unless I'm plinking, at the range or hunting. I've never had a CCW nor do I care to have one. However, I would highly advise against entering our home unannounced unless your a close friend or relative. With the children grown, I keep a loaded firearm in five different rooms in the house, all discreetly placed, but easy to reach.
Having worked on and off in Africa for 28 years with a gun at hand 100% of the time, as is the case on a ranch, it truly takes on the role of just another tool of the trade.
Easier said than done in California. You might ask a question or two before passing judgement and expressing yourself in a negative manner. ..... "man!"
yeah, reality is like that sometimes. Like the dude who aint lazy, 5 guns laying (loaded) around his house, can't be bothered to carry ONE. aint no law in CA that says you can't ccw in your home and I bet that it's still just a misdemeanor to do so in public, too.
I'm not paranoid, so I don't wear a gun in my own home, however between the Collection and other valuables in the house, we could potentially become a target for a home invasion robbery, hence the precaution of having a firearm within easy reach in the event of a break in.
I've had cause on six different occasions to hold poachers at gun point while making a citizen's arrest in Zim. In each occasion, they were meat poachers running game with dogs until they brought the animal at bay, at which point they would kill the animal with spears or an axe. My trackers took charge of the situation following the captures and I kept the spears and the axe. They are displayed on the wall in our home.
The five Matabele spears, include a very old assegai and in the photo below, the Tonga axe can be seen in the lower right corner of the photo. The Matabele were one of the five original Zulu tribes, hence the assegai.
Too each his own. I know what works for me and my Family.
Pulled once on 2 adult size mad men...didn't shoot or report it! Past students of mine...
Put my hand on gun in very slow intense stare down
Their were 5 # grown very mad drug dealers sent in by a guy I put in jail 3 years that beat tried to rape my daughter. Another . One of my ex students....One guy in the first group is his half brother....
.they were to teach me the lesson!
Had a high drug dealer try to grab my gun in shoulder holster..I garbed his wrist .when he looked down at the click
The 5 inch switch blade was next to his ribs...
None of his large group saw the knife but him....he didn't say a single word.....just see you later Mr Phillips..
I went on into the store....change gun to hip under jacket..
.now .expecting the worse I know I intrude into their territory ..
..I had to get by them one more time to my awaiting sick wife in the truck....
Went out ....a few said see you , later...etc
IM THE TEACHER..... I always pray say: Lord prepare the way or prepare me to do battle.... ,
He has never failed me....and I stay out of the emotions, or talk till I go through the " shoot, don't shoot course !
Which I think everyone should try a few time in there life....
I carry a gun because I'm to old to fight and to young to die. Besides, carrying a .45 Colt in Alameda, CA did save me some grief back in the early 1980s when a couple "gents" tried to relieve me of my wallet. My gun was definitely bigger from their viewpoint. Today I usually CCW either a EG Makarov or G19 and on rare occasions an LCP or Sistema Colt. Hope to never ever have to use it but the world today is just not improving much.
No North Bender, but the door is always open for Gunboards members in good standing! Right now there is not as much to see as usual since we are preparing to sell and get the hell out of gov. moonbeams reach! However, here are a few more photos of the various items on display. At the moment, only the Museum is in storage. The hunting trophies and African and Alaskan keep-sakes are all still with us, but they too will be packed for storage soon enough!
Enjoy!!!
Warmest regards,
John
