In addition to rifles years ago I started collecting M-1 Carbine magazine pouches. They were cheap at the time, and gave me something else to look for while scrounging through tables at gun shows.

They have been in a box in my garage and I haven't looked at them in about 5 years. So I thought I would share them. There are two main types of pouches which carry two 15 round magazines.

The early "stock" type pouches, which in addition to wearing on a G.I. belt can be slipped on the stock of an M-1 rifle.

This is a list of the manufacturers and dates of this type of pouch in my collection:

I updated the post and blended the original photos back into the body of the post. When I get the time I will take photos of the "belt" type pouches and post those photos.

good start.. only 140 more to go

you have a good start on your collection.. I also started collecting the pouches then they were cheap.. I thought they were expensive at $2 and $3 eash.. there are about 200 known different makers and variations in color.. but I am over the hump and only need about 70 or so more to have then ALL.. good news is they are still easy to pick up in the $5-$10 range for the non-stock type... if you are willing to sell a few I am interested, I do not have a few of the ones you have... happy collecting

Sorry for the crappy pictures...

still,, this is a good addition...

The markings are a bit hard to read... Sorry... Also,, note simplified rear piece of the LTD fastener....

Note the pointed front flap and simplified markings...

someone out there probably has a better example with an actual camera....

I've got a two-tone magazine pouch, which is stamped on the back "S. FROEHLICH CO. Inc." and below that, stamped "N.Y.C. 1943". The pouch is worn with stains, the female snap has either been scratched or some very light pitting, and the male snap has lost some of the black paint from use over the years. The webbing also has the old smell. My concern is with the stamping on the back. I have not found another S. Froehlich Co. magazine pouch with the same lettering. Mine includes "Inc." on the top line and "N.Y.C. 1943" below that. Have you seen anything similar? Do I have a really good reproduction magazine pouch?

I just noticed that the S. Froehlich Co. Inc., N.Y.C. 1943 magazine pouch that I photographed above is also pictured on page 147 of Craig Riesch's U.S. M1 Carbines, Wartime Productionm 6th Edition, Revised 2009. Guess that answers my earlier question as to whether anyone had ever seen the S. Froehlich variation that I had.
