    SOG or AIM Nagants?

AIM surplus is currently out of the Nagant revolvers. Their ad says they are in "excellent condition" for $79.95.

SOG has these pistols in "VERY GOOD to GOOD" condition for $69.95.

I am looking to purchase my first and want to know if anyone has purchased from SOG and AIM to compare condition.

Are the AIM pistols in better shape than the SOG pistols?

I've dealt with AIM on other purchases
    and was treated very well.
I bought a Nagant and others from SOG
    and was treated very well.
I have no comparison of their current stock of pistols.
...but for only $10 difference, I say roll the dice.
(unless the shipping is cheaper too)

SOG charges extra for using a credit card for payment so the price difference is really negligible anyway.

I've purchased firearms from both companies and was completely satisfied.

I am really interested in the condition of the current crop of SOG pistols.

Anyone have pictures of a recent SOG Nagant purchase?

Haven't tried SOG yet - have had great experience with AIM with several 1895's and a number of other rifles...would also be interested in how SOG's product compares to their condition rating.

I had good luck with SOG on my Nagant purchase. I ordered one without specifying anything (no hand select or special requests), just the cheapest deal they had. They sent me a very nice wood checkered gripped 1916 peter the great with a like new bore. Only thing bad was it had the big ugly Century billboard on one side though. Other than that, I couldn’t have been happier. Of course as always your results may vary.

I got one from AIM and is excellent, very, very accurate with Hotshot Nagant ammo and 32acp with the conversion cylinder. I hit the 6"x10" gong at 70 yards 7 out of 7, shocking surprise for me! Love it!

    Thanks for the pictures!

I just placed my order for one of these from SOG. It will be $98.80 shipped to my door, including the extra handpick fee. I'll post pictures Monday when it arrives.

I was able to get my hands on some Nagant Competition Match ammo at my local gun store. I bought the only 3 boxes they had.

I was told by John Moss @ IAA that this is the ammo the Russians used for the 40th World Championships in Pheonix, Arizona. Interesting stuff!

Have had great dealings with Aim in the past as far as rifles go. My brother just gave me a '37 Tula Nagant revolver during a recent visit. He got them from Aim, I was very happy with the quality and condition of it.

    SOG M1895, 1930 Tula

I received my first M1895 Nagant from SOG today. It's a 1930 Tula with wood grips and is in excellent condition. I'm quite pleased.

Now that you have a few for comparison, go to the "bore diameter" thread, and give the "bullet under the spring" a try. I did it, made quite a difference on the DA trigger pull. Enjoy them!

THAT isn't the ammo as it's dated 1972 , but the 40th in Phoenix was in 1970 :D

It's the Soviet B-1 target ammunition. It was designed for the MTs-4 and TOZ-36 pistols. This cartridge has been used since 1956. It shoots very consistently, but muzzle velocity will only be a about 2/3 of the velocity of Service ammunition. It was relatively cheap a few years ago $12-14 a box. If you want to get rid of it, I have a TOZ-36 that loves this stuff!

If I were to be another Nagant, I would still go back to Empire Arms:
RUSSIAN Model 1895 Nagant 7-shot revolver (7.62x38R Nagant), mfg. by Tula in either 1938, 1939 or 1940. Arsenal refinished with mirror-bright bore, 100% bluing and sharply checkered walnut grips and grip-panels, no accessories. Has subtle (barely visible) import-marks underneath barrel. . . $125 POSTPAID or TWO for $210 POSTPAID C&R

As I live in the Great NW, shipping makes this a good deal, and Dennis is fiirst class all the way.:D

Aim is also a first class operation, by the by.

Try to use our sponsors if you can. We have several different sponsors that currently have Nagant revolvers in stock at competitive prices..

    SOG Nagant

I just got my first nagant. Ordered it from SOG since they are the cheapest and I have never had any beef with them. I got a 1920, exc. refurb condition. The markings are partially scrubbed but still readable. Bore looks good. Not bad for $81.95 delivered. Now I got to score some cheap ammo.

LOL...good luck with that. Let me know if you find some! The cheapest I've found so works out to $0.53/round with shipping.

I've got my first one on the way as we speak. I hadn't realised the ammo was so damn hard to come by. I thought part of the reason these were great pistols was because they were affordable and ammo was plentiful. Guess I misunderstood that part somewhere. Where can I find out more about the conversion cylinder mentioned in this thread?

Well, I finally got a chance to take the old M1895 to the range today.

I went through a box of the Russian target ammo (1972) and a box of the new production Hot Shot ammo. $50 didn't last very long!

The pistol is much more accurate than I expected with both types of ammo. I was shooting at a distance of 15 yds. and was getting nice groups of about 2 inches - SINGLE action. Double action was truly awful! It must be a 30 pound trigger pull! Simply dreadful! Lol.

Very neat pistol, overall, and a great bargain for $70. Get yours while they are still cheap!
