below is the other BP musket, this one is the Navy Arms Import of one of the Antonio Zoli models. Can anyone identify the model of this one and a ball park value? I haven't cleaned either of them up yet so pardon the rust on the Zoli....
carbine model of the Zouave Musket, I think. I bought a similar one 6 months ago for $220. Have seen them considerably more money also.1970's vintage I would think.
Thank you for the replies guys!
I thought it might be the Zouave musket, but I saw no photos of one that didn't have the patch/ cap box in the butt stock.
Good grief yes, completely missed the patchbox! Someone care to clarify the welded bolster and conection with NSSA? Not familiar with the reference. Thanks.
what is a welded breach plug and why would they weld it and not thread it in? after all the ITALIAN gun smiths now how to thread it in, I can't see them welding it in.
I believe this had the threaded breach plug.... you can see the indexing hash mark in this photo as well as a little bit of the recessed area after the plug was screwed in....
It wasn't the breechplug that was the problem,it was the bolster. On the early Bernadelli ones (not the Zoli's) the bolster was brazed on and could blow off, they later welded the bolster and it will have a W stamped on it.
now that makes sense, you can see where the bolster is recessed into the breach end of the barrel, not welded. now the bolster being brazed on to the barrel is the way they were done in the day, not the safest way but that is what they knew. i have seen originals where the bolster has a thin line of separation between it and the barrel. because of age it has started to separate. don't shoot!!
