I have a couple Ishapore 410 muskets and wanted to compare them head to head. One is a GRI 1942 No1 Mk3* converted to 410 in 1948 and modified to 410 shotshells with a 3" chamber and the other is a GRI 1943 No1 Mk3 converted to 410 in 1949 and retains its original chamber. Testing was done at 40 yards, no wind, overcast, 65 degree day. I was shooting at 2" dots with a 6 o'clock hold from the prone position using a sandbag front rest. I fired Federal 2.5" 1/4 oz slugs and Winchester 2.5" 3 pellet 000 buck from the 1942 and 1960 surplus Mk1z POF musket ball from the 1943.

I fouled the barrels with three shots each of the 1/4 slugs (3 3/4 group) and Mk1z (3 1/2"group). I then fired 5 shot groups with the Mk1z (4 1/2" group with flier, one mark), slugs (5 1/2" group, two marks) and 3 rounds of 000 buck with only 4 hits and a 28" spread on them (three marks).

I have not used these Federal slugs before and noticed that the rear of the shell had significant ballooning. I compared this to a Remington 2.5" 1/5 oz Slugger (primer removed) I had fired from the 1942 earlier which had no signs of deformation. This was also my first run with the 1960 Mk1z ammo which had some corrosion on the face of the ball but I think preformed very well and out of the 8 rounds fired I encountered 2 hang fires of a fraction of a second.
