Default Hensoldt-Wetzlar Scope - Help ID

I hope this is the right forum for this post. I got this scope as part of a deal I made on a rifle. I have never had a scope on any of my rifles, and do not know anything about them. Having said that, it looked to me like a good quality scope. Here are my questions:

    1. Was it made in Germany?
    2. Was it made before/during or after the war?
    3. What kind of mounts do I need for it? Where can I get them?
    4. Is it a good quality scope?
    5. If it is military, in which rifles was it used?
    6. And of course, How much is it worth?

Thanks a lot for any help you guys can provide.

    Vic

I will take a stab at it:
    1. Was it made in Germany? Yes
    2. Was it made before/during or after the war? I believe after, introduced in 1953, very similar to pre war/ or war time.
    Actually, probably better.
    3. What kind of mounts do I need for it? Where can I get them? Any Redfield or Burris type bases will work.
You have post war Redfield type rings on the scope, just need the correct bases for the rifle you are going to put them on.
    4. Is it a good quality scope? Absolutely.
    5. If it is military, in which rifles was it used? Not Military. Wartime used on 98k's, prewar most anything including doubles/Drillings, stc.
    6. And of course, How much is it worth? Was expensive in 1953, my book (several years old) says worth $200 to $300 Probably more. (plus Rings)
    Hope this helps - Skid

Hensoldt is the industrial optics partnership of E. Leitz (the Leica camera people) & Zeiss (West) the high end optics company. So, yes, its a very good scope. Wetzlar is an old optical manufacturing "capital" of Germany for ever, its a little South East of Cologne.

I'd guess just post war as I have a Hensoldt Fero Z-24 from the late 50's early 60's & it's a development from the one you have.
The tube should be 1", so any 1" set of rings & mounts would work.

There's an almost identical one with a claw mount in not quite so nice condition on E-Bay right now & the asking price is $1,099.99! If it actually sells for that I don't know.
