Hi - I just picked up a KAR 88 (not my first) but this one has an addition to the clip well area that I can't fathom.
It appears to be a thin metal bar welded into place at the bottom of what I'm calling the "clip well" - since it's not a magazine. (I'm sure I'm using the incorrect term, but I don't know how else to describe it.)
I just got it and have not tried to insert a loaded clip into it yet, but wondered if anyone here has encountered this before? The markings on the receiver (Schilling Suhl 1890) reveals nothing out of the ordinary - and the rest of it appears to be completely standard when compared to the others I own. Bolt, receiver and barrel all match and there are no unit markings to be seen.
Thanks much for the info.
