This looks like possibly a wartime produced sling to me, though the ink stamp is very faint and I can't say for sure what the date is. From my understanding, the dog collars appear to be of the midwar pattern rawhide type.
Slings are not my strongest category but I think it is war time. War time used mostly stitching where post war used more rivets. Ratnik would really know for certain.
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I tried to find pics online of a similar format ink stamp that was less faded, but no luck. The construction of the sling resembles detail pics of wartime examples shown in Ratnik's book, as do the dog collars.
If I recall, rivets were also used during wartime. The pig skin dog collars were used post-war as well. My non-refurb 1946 M44 wears a 1946 dated sling with pig skin collars.
I have a couple of early postwar slings that are also have some "wartime" features but they are clearly dated 1948. The canvas color is khaki, though, and there are leather re-enforcement patches. Notice the two styles of rawhide leather collars, too.
