I inherited a brand new 8lb can of 571 and would like to find some loads to use it with. I understand it is the same as HS-7 also. I shoot 45acp, 40s&w,357mag, 380acp. and 12ga Trap and Skeet. Anyone have some info or sources?
thanks

I looked in my sources and the only mention (Handloader's Digest, ca. 1974) I found was that 571 was (is) a relatively slow-burning powder developed for magnum 12-gauge loads. Speer manuals of that time don't show it as a handgun propellent in their load tables in any calibers, but according to the burn rate chart in H.D., it is near Blue Dot and HS-7. I would think that 571 is way too slow for any of your handgun calibers except possibly the .357 Magnum, and even then I'd expect unburned powder and some really impressive muzzle flash. This powder might work with heavier bullets and longer (10 inches or more) barrels, but that's just my opinion.
There were a couple of loads for the 12-gauge in the article. Do you want them?
I posted some info about Win. 571 up on the Hunting and Fishing board.

Me and my big mouth…. I found this data in the 15th edition of the Winchester Reloader's Manual (1997) while looking for something else.
