    Default VZ23 green paint

    Hey all,
found this vz23 recently. Has all matching parts although bolt was replaced at some point. Havent looked to see if barrel is a replacement although the bore is excellent so I assume it has been replaced.
What is the mystery is the green paint stripe on forend and crossbolt, also the disc is painted green. Anyone have any ideas?

Does look like John Deere green! Have never seen such a marked Czech Mauser before. Some of the old DP Enfields had a red stripe if I recall correctly. The paint on yours looks fairly fresh to me.

Yeah I agree the paint does not look period correct. Just wondering if I should attempt removing it? Anyone care to chime in??

hey chuckie75. if it was mine, i'd leave it alone, as is. once a stock shows signs of alteration, many people question it.

I agree with Frosty, leave it alone until you find out for sure why it's there. Once you remove it you can't put it back if it means something. I'm inclined to believe it means something. If several of them were sitting in a rack with ones that were regular issue it would have some sort of special meaning. In other words it might have been done to keep from getting it mixed up with issue rifles.
