Default KERN AARAU PE90 vs PE57 scopes

On a recent thread there was a question re: the PE90 scope vs PE57 scope.. I didn't want to steal the thread so I will post these pictures here for the comparison of both scopes on the rifle. There are clearly some differences in the scopes, main difference being the turret calibration for the different bullet types. But the actual scopes are somewhat different as well with regard to the windage turret size and placement. The reticle is the same. The kern PE57 scope is the first one shown and is made in 1989 whereas the PE90 scope is the 2nd scope shown and is made in 1990. I am not sure why the turret placement and sizes are different and someone smarter than me might chime in.... btw, this RARE PE90 scope was found in EUROPE. It was a great find, however when I found it, the store in Switzerland was closed...bad night sleep for me... The next morning I was able to snag it.. that next evening I slept very well.

thanks brian.... that was the best and worst 24 hours i have spent collecting in my life... It was a back and forth from US to Switzerland, Time difference, inability to sell out of the country, and the language barrier...Ugh... the method of contact was multifold and I was told after I bought it that it was sold already: the guy just didn't know he was talking to the buyer (me).. Once I had my ace in the hole make the contact, it was a done deal, boom, drop the mic... I can quit now... I even told my wife.. Funny thing about collecting unicorns like this, I felt as if everyone else in the world was looking at it at the same time and it was a race to purchase... I couldn't get the credit card out fast enough. Just the sinking feeling of it going away to some other collector was a tough pill to swallow.

Congrats Andy! That's a great find and it sounds like you had some hoops to jump through to make it happen.

We Marines believe that God gave America the greatest gift he could bestow to man while he lived on this earth-freedom. We also believe he gave us another gift nearly as precious-our soldiers, sailors, airmen, Coast Guardsmen, and Marines-to safeguard that gift and
guarantee no force on this earth can every steal it away. It has been my distinct honor to have been with you here today. Rest assured our America, this experiment in democracy started over two centuries ago, will forever remain the "land of the free and home of the brave" so long as we never run out of tough young Americans who are willing to look beyond their own self-interest and comfortable lives, and go into the darkest and most dangerous places on earth to hunt down, and kill, those who would do us harm.

What for is that lever on the PE90 scope btw? You can push it to either side and had thought the scope must then be possible to slide out backwards, but it was so stiff I didn't dare to remove it.

That is the mount release for the spring loaded mount. It locks it into place release the lever and the scope is allowed to come off by a moderate push towards the rear.
