    Default 1889 Swiss Rifle

This rifle is my first venture into Swiss firearms collecting. I’m interested to learn as much about it as I can. It has all matching serial numbers that I can see. However the magazine and buttplate are not numbered like I’ve seen on other 1889 rifles. How can I tell what year this rifle was produced? I believe the 5 stamp in the stock refers to the region it was issued in, but don’t know much more than that, is that correct? It has a P09 stamp which from my understanding shows its sale out of military service to a private individual. Any information is great appreciated!

    looks very tidy. well done.
You are correct about the number 5 relating to a region, if you do a search on the internet you can find out where it is,
Sorry I cant be more hopeful as all my books are boxed up ready for a move

Thank you for that info, I was told it was first year of production when I purchased it but didn't know how to confirm it. The linked website is interesting, had to translate it since I don't know German haha.
