    Default /6616\ Type 56 mis-match. Anything special?

Of my entire collection, this is my most accurate rifle. Until I stripped the threads on elevation post trying to sight it in, I was getting consistent 1-2inch groups at 75 yards.

Its a mix-master. Mag and trigger match. Cheese grater piston shroud is an obvious replacement. Bolt, carrier, receiver and (apparently) stock are all matching.

The IACO.SAC.CA import stamp is slightly different than the other IACO stamps I've seen (on sks-files).

Stock has obviously been rode hard ( very heavily sanded posssibly whittled), especially the underside. It almost looks as if the underside of stock (and possibly the original matching trigger and magazine) was partially immersed in water and heavily sanded to remove the damaged wood.

Ive always thought it to be a beater that shot like a laser. (It hates Russian steel case ammo: pops primers like nobody's business)

Never posted it here because it doesnt strike me as anything special. Aesthetically, it is my favorite rifle in my collection, and coupled with the rifle's accuracy I decided not to sell it when I unloaded five non-collectible mis-matched carbines last month in the hopes of narrowing my collection to all matching and/or unique mismatches.

I'm guessing it's just a mismatched beater that is also a better-than-decent shooter.

Import stamp tells me its one of the late 80's early 90's imports. But that's about all i know about it.

Can any of the experts offer any more info?

Would it have had a stamped trigger group? A two piece piston? Do the short barrel lug and the side mount sling swivel suggest an early to mid 60's date of manufacture?

    Pics in reply post...

If it's a good shooter, then it's special.

One of my best shooters is a mismatched pinned barrel beater.
